Zebras Unite Capital
(Re)building resilient economies
Since the first articulation of the Zebra ethos in 2017, both members of the community and investors have encouraged us to start a Zebras Unite investment fund.
We have arrived at the design for an investment company that will focus on three areas: (1) non dilutive, early stage funding in the form of fellowships, character based loans, and grants; (2) patient, revenue based, growth stage financing, and (3) patient private equity geared to encourage exits to community (a la what we were exploring with the MeetUp opportunity) and reforming cap tables in favor of founders, users, and workers.
Zebras Unite Capital is an inclusive, integrated investment company that is closing the capital access gap by developing distributed, democratic networks and infrastructure for raising and deploying equity and hybrid capital to early stage companies. We focus on the 85% of entrepreneurs not served by banks and venture capital, notably women and people of color, providing impact-linked loans and equity investment. We are supported by our co-op members, and a global community, 5,200+ strong and growing, with 45 chapters on six continents.
Zebras Unite Capital (ZUC) is a joint venture between Zebras Unite Co-Op and SecondMuse Capital (2MC), whose work is driven by a belief that we must transform societies organized in service of the economy to economies organized in service to society. In this context, future economies must be inclusive, and profit and purpose can co-exist. 2MC has developed a unique investment model that utilizes blended capital to invest in businesses and real estate that help create new economies that are growing, resilient, and inclusive. Based on a decade of experience in building economies and supporting entrepreneurs around the world, 2MC strategically influences and deploys blended capital to uncover new markets and opportunities that previously had been deemed uninvestable.
We are currently in the design phase of the fund, and are looking to connect with individuals, funders, foundations interested in participating in the Future Economy Lab. The Labs are designed to constellate funders by region/geography, interest area (philanthropy, debt, etc.)
